Al salone di Tokyo 1971 la Yamaha presentò questa GL 750,
4 cilindri in linea raffreddata a liquido. Sarebbe potuta essere la prima "race-replica", parente (almeno nel motore) della TZ 750 cha avrebbe dominato le gare della Formula 750.
La federazione però non ritenne necessaria l'omologazione di un modello stradale come base di una moto da corsa derivata di serie ed il progetto cadde così nel dimenticatoio.
